The Artist's Process:

Each box is hand-crafted one at a time on a per order basis. Doing it this way makes each individual box a One of a Kind!
The inlay top designs are cut using a traditional scroll saw. The edges of each cut are beveled & smoothed out by hand. The pieces are checked for fit are then glued into the assembled top insert.
The frames of the boxes are mitred at the corners and 3 splines are glued into the corners to give the mitres additional strength as well as a decorative touch. The inside top insert is also mitred at the corners & it is separated into three areas with the bottom being lined with felt. The bottom inside of the box is also lined with felt.
The top is attached to the frame using a pair of “Brusso” solid brass hinges…the best hinges on the market for Jewelry Boxes. The hinge design stops the lid at 95 degrees.
After a final sanding, the box is stained with various colors to highlight the individual inlay designs on the top. Alcohol dyes are used because this method brings out the richness of any hardwood grain. Four coats of lacquer are used for the finish…rubbing out in between each coat to produce a smooth finish. The box is allowed to dry for a week and a final rubbing and a coat of wax is applied to produce a rich lustrous satin finish that is silky smooth to the touch.
A mirror is then installed to the inside of the lid.
